If you’ve engaged an external Recruiter to support you with your hiring and it was all going well to start with, but then it all went a bit quiet, I could almost guarantee that you are working on a traditional contingency arrangement ie. no placement no fee.
Here’s the scenario:
➡️ You agree brief with recruiter
➡️ Recruiter goes away and works role
➡️ You receive first 4 or 5 candidates from Recruiter
➡️ You agree to interview maybe 3 or 4 of them
➡️ You start the i/v process, but receive no more new candidates
➡️ For whatever reason the candidates don’t make it to offer stage
➡️ You ask for more candidates
➡️ It all goes a bit quiet
If this all sounds familiar then you cannot blame the recruiter, it is the model you are working to that is to blame.. Contingency 👎
If after finding you 5 great profiles, they haven’t managed to make a placement, then the alarm bells will start ringing and there is a very good chance your level of priority will be reduced.
A recruiter has to focus on where they are likely to make placements because they wont get paid if they don’t make any.
Even if one of the candidates you loved has pulled out at the final stage and it isn’t your fault, there will still be concerns raised.
Most experienced and specialist recruiters will normally expect to make a placement from around 5 or so submitted candidates.
Any more than that and they have to genuinely feel very confident that the extra work will lead to a placement.
Don’t forget, everything they have done up to this point has been free of charge
If there is any doubt, they are very likely to focus their time on other clients and you can’t blame them for that.
But the solution is very simple 💡
If you engage your recruiter on a monthly retainer where there is a guaranteed number of qualified candidates delivered, then you will find yourself at the very top of the priority list.
If they are being paid to find you great candidates and the only way they will continue to be paid is to find you great candidates , then I can 100% guarantee you will be seeing great candidates.. For as long as you need them.
